Dr. Gambill
Dr. Taylor Gambill was introduced to the art of reed-making by Dr. Dale Clark while achieving his undergraduate degree at Arkansas State University. During his time with Dr. Clark, Dr. Gambill gained extensive knowledge of the entire reed-making process; from harvesting cane out of the ground to putting the perfect tip on a fully formed reed. Dr. Gambill also studied reed-making techniques with Mr. Rodney Ackmann while achieving his master’s degree at the University of Oklahoma, and Mr. Richard Meek while achieving his doctorate from Texas Tech University. Mr. Meek was primarily taught reed making by renown reed-makers David Van Hoesen and Lou Skinner.
Dr. Gambill received his BMA in Bassoon Performance from Arkansas State University in 2018 and his MM in Bassoon Performance from the University of Oklahoma in 2020. He completed his DMA in Bassoon Performance from Texas Tech University in 2024. Dr. Gambill has performed as a section bassoonist with the Delta Symphony Orchestra, the Norman Philharmonic, the Big Spring Symphony, the Roswell Symphony Orchestra, and the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Gambill is currently the Professor of Bassoon and Oboe at Angelo State University. He has maintained a private lessons studio since his studies as an undergraduate. Dr. Gambill has a passion for helping young bassoonists become advanced players that have complete confidence in the audition room and on stage. Many students fear the complexities of the bassoon, but it is Dr. Gambill’s goal to help students realize how fun the bassoon can truly be.
